Tempcon Group CEO Christian Hallberg reflects on 2024

2024 has been an eventful year for Tempcon Group, filled with new opportunities, strategic investments, and a continued strong focus on sustainability. In an exclusive interview, Tempcon’s CEO shares his reflections on the past year – from successes in sales and growth to innovative investments in sustainable transport and operational efficiencies. Read more about how Tempcon has tackled both opportunities and challenges, and what lies ahead in the coming year, or watch the video on our YouTube channel.

2024 has been an eventful year for Tempcon Group. How would you summarise the year?

Yes, 2024 has truly been both an exciting and transformative year for us at Tempcon. We have grown through acquisitions and new customer assignments. We have developed and streamlined our organisation through recruitment and consolidation of operations. We have also invested heavily in our sustainability efforts by making significant investments in vehicles with a lower environmental impact.

Can you tell us more about growth and sales?

At the beginning of 2024, we set ambitious goals for growth and sales, and now that the year is coming to an end, we can proudly say that we have achieved those objectives. We’ve fostered strong collaboration within our sales team, where the entire Tempcon family has worked together to find the best solutions for both existing and new customers.

This year, we also welcomed two new companies into the Tempcon Group. In January, Widriksson’s digital business unit, Shyping, became a standalone company within the group. And in May, we acquired Cold Star Logistics in Västerås. Cold Star is a relatively new player with skilled employees who have undergone an exciting journey of growth, strengthening our presence in central Sweden.

You mentioned “streamlining our organisation” as an important focus this year – what measures have been taken?

We are committed to leveraging economies of scale and coordinating our operations to maximise efficiency. Through increased collaboration and consolidation, we capitalise on the expertise and knowledge available across the group, rather than duplicating resources.

Additionally, we have increased the number of subcontractors performing transports on our behalf. If the capacity already exists in the market, we naturally want to utilise it. However, we never compromise on our environmental and quality standards, which must be met in the same way as when we handle transports ourselves.

Customer satisfaction has always been a central part of Tempcon’s business idea. Can you give examples of how you’ve worked on this during the year?

We maintain close dialogue with our customers to continuously improve our logistics solutions. Our ambition is always to adapt to each customer’s unique needs across the entire logistics chain, from producer to consumer. In this process, digital solutions, quality, and sustainability are critical, and we take pride in being experts in these areas.

Tempcon has been recognised for its work on environmental and sustainability initiatives. What would you highlight from this year?

We are working hard to continue reducing our carbon footprint together with our customers. This year, we have invested in more vehicles powered by gas and electricity, and currently, we have around 20 electric vehicles and 70 gas-powered vehicles in the group. Additionally, we use HVO instead of diesel wherever possible.

We are also seeing the results of previous investments in solar panels and are proud to produce a significant share of our own electricity. Solar energy is both fossil-free and renewable, which means it has a minimal impact on the climate.

Every year comes with its challenges. What have been the biggest ones for Tempcon in 2024?

The ongoing economic downturn has led many transport buyers to review their agreements in search of the most cost-effective options, creating some price pressure in the market. At the same time, we aim to demonstrate that sustainable transport solutions with high quality and environmental standards come with associated costs. Despite this, we have successfully navigated these challenges and even strengthened our market position in 2024.

Finally, what are you looking forward to in 2025?

I am genuinely looking forward to building on the progress we’ve made in 2024. There is a lot of exciting activity within the Tempcon Group in the coming year. Two highlights I would like to mention are:

The new Syd Frys facility: This summer, we will inaugurate Syd Frys’ new facility in Hyllinge, near Helsingborg. The expansion will double the space and increase storage capacity to nearly 40,000 pallets. This development is part of our strategy to meet the growing demand for frozen storage solutions.

HCT vehicles at Tommy Nordbergh Åkeri: At Tommy Nordbergh Åkeri, we have invested in a gas-powered HCT vehicle with 66 pallet spaces, set to be delivered in early 2025. It will be very exciting to see how we can further optimise transport with this type of vehicle moving forward.

Thank you very much. Is there anything else you’d like to add?

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our customers, suppliers, and talented employees for another year in which we have truly lived up to our values of Commitment, Credibility, and Together.

I also want to wish you all a very Happy 2025!
