The extensive new construction project in Hyllinge for Tempcon’s subsidiary Syd Frys is progressing as planned. The construction is even a little ahead of schedule in terms of the frame, so the hopes are good to be able to move in as planned before midsummer 2025. Since the start of the project, opportunities have been found to expand with additional pallet spaces in addition to the previously planned total volume of 36,000 pallets, which is more than doubling compared to today’s capacity. It has also been decided to test new technology to reduce ice and snow formation, which creates a better working environment and reduces energy consumption.
The technology to try is Coolsaver, which is mineral tiles that are installed on the walls and absorb moisture, which reduces condensation and ice formation. The mineral tiles consist of a natural material that is reusable. Reduced ice and snow formation means a better working environment and energy savings as you don’t have to defrost to the same extent as in traditional freezer environments.
– We are very pleased that the project so far is going according to plan, says Fia Andersson, former CEO of Syd Frys and responsible for the project. The fact that we are ahead of schedule and have found new opportunities in the form of more podium places and the chance to test new technology for a better working environment and reduced energy consumption is very positive.
The first parts of the project have already been completed and the staff have received newly renovated and fresh changing rooms and office premises. Likewise, the new loading is ready, which was a prerequisite for starting the new construction.
– Right now we only have two gates in the new throughput, says Henrik Ottosson, who works with business development at Syd Frys, but it works well and the guys work fantastically well and we handle an average of 1 000 pallets during an eight-hour work shift.
The investment at Syd Frys is the largest on the stock side within Tempcon and is an investment of just over SEK 100 million. The expansion in Hyllinge is a good example of the company’s ambitions to continue growing and meet the increasing demand for frozen products. For many years, Syd Frys has been a leading player in the handling and storage of frozen products and customer-optimized ancillary services such as picking, order handling and customs handling.
